The Life of Mrs. Fifty
Shades
Chapter Sixteen
Christian
Nine days had passed.
I hadn’t eaten anything they brought. All I had was the
water and tea that came with every meal. My plan wasn’t to starve to death. It
was only to show resilience. If I could last this long without food and keep up
my stamina and intelligence, then he understood I was an opponent he couldn’t
beat.
But if day fourteen arrived, I would have to eat something. I
just hoped I was rescued by then. It was beyond my understanding that the
entire country was searching for me but they hadn’t found me yet.
How hard could it be?
I was still within Washington. They didn’t transport me far
before they locked me in this room. They stripped me of my phone, my watch, and
everything else I possessed. I was given a t-shirt and sweatpants to wear
instead.
The cot was uncomfortable, not the soft and luxurious sheets
I was used to. The mattress was more of a mat. And Ana wasn’t sleeping beside
me.
I spent most of the night tossing and turning.
I knew she and the children were safe with Crow. He would
give his life to protect them, and no one would ever trace him to the estate he had hidden in the midst of vineyards. And he was a noble man who always fulfilled his
promises. He wouldn’t touch Ana or even look at her the wrong way. And he would
kill anyone who did. The only reason I remained calm was because I knew Crow
would keep my family safe.
The door opened and the man walked inside, looking like a lesser
version of myself. He was thin but lacked any muscle tone. His eyes were gray
but didn’t possess any power. There was only dullness inside. Despite our
similarities, we were nothing alike.
He pulled the chair to the center of the room and sat down.
What did this fucker want now?
“Christian, you’re going to cooperate today.” He spoke like an
inexperienced school teacher trying to get the attention of the entire class.
He only did things half-assed.
“That’s news to me.”
He held up my cell phone. The screen was black. “We need you
to make a phone call.”
“Want me to order a pizza?”
He didn’t appreciate my smartass comment. “You’re going to
call your wife and demand her to transfer the funds from your off shore
account.”
I wasn't surprised he knew I had one. Probably hired a PI to figure it out since he didn't seem smart enough. He couldn’t access my American bank accounts because
they would be frozen, but he could access my international ones. Perhaps he wasn’t
as stupid as I thought.
“Call her and tell her to transfer the money.” He held up a
piece of paper. “The account number is written below.”
Like he could get me to do anything.
“Do as I say, or you’ll pay the price.”
I only stared at him.
“Make the call.” He pulled a box of cigarettes out
of his pocket and lit one. He took a puff and blew the smoke out of his mouth
before he pressed it near his forearm, giving me a silent warning. It was the exact
same thing one of my mom’s boyfriends used to do to me. How he knew that was a mystery.
“If you don’t want any more scars, I suggest you get to work.” He placed the
phone on the ground then kicked it over to me.
I grabbed it and unlocked the screen. A picture of Ana,
Teddy, and Phoebe was my screen saver. Looking at their beautiful faces just
made me miss them even more. I wanted to release a sigh
of longing, but I stopped it from happening. I didn’t allow myself to show any
weakness.
The phone was locked so her number was the only one I could
call. I was impressed he figured that out too. I hit the call button and
pressed the phone to my ear.
He sat at the edge of his seat, the excitement obvious in
his eyes.
I listened to it ring until she answered. “Christian? Oh my
god, is it you? Christian?” Tears were mingled with the panic in her voice.
“Mrs. Grey, it’s me.”
She gasped into the phone. “Oh my god…I’ve been so worried.
The kids and I have been so upset.”
He kicked me from his chair. “Get on with it.”
I was never going to get on with it. “Ana, I just wanted to
let you know that I’m alright, and I’ll be released shortly.”
“Really?” she said through her tears. “Oh, thank god.”
He lunged at me when he knew his plan had backfired.
I dodged out of the way before he could grab the phone. “I
love you, Mrs. Grey.” The phone fell from my hand and crashed to the floor. He
was on me, throwing punches and trying to strangle me.
Weak and starving, I fought back. I didn’t have the strength I normally would, but I definitely had rage on my side. My fist
flew into his face, and I beat him until the blood came pouring out. I wouldn’t
stop until this man was dead and lifeless in my arms. I wouldn’t stop until he
was annihilated. He tried to take my family—my wife and kids. There would never
be forgiveness for that.
There would only be retribution.
I had him pinned to the floor, and I was about to smash his
skull in when the guards came in. They grabbed me by the arms and dragged me
off of him, kicking me in the stomach and the legs to subdue me.
And that motherfucker was saved.
They gave me another kick in the stomach just to teach me a
lesson. Then they helped him to his feet and escorted him out of the room,
locking the door behind them.
I sat up and rubbed the bruise that was already forming over
my ribs. I got a beating for the little stunt I pulled, but it was totally worth
it. Ana knew I was okay. Ana knew I was still alive.
